MAP (Migration to Asia Peace) held this online special event in 2021 to mark World Refugee Day. It brought together refugees and Korean residents as “living books”, people who share their own stories directly with listeners.

Introduction Videos

These two short films capture the ordinary yet extraordinary stories of refugees and residents building something together. Both Korean and English subtitles are available.

The theme running through both videos is “Together We Can: We Heal, Learn and Shine”, stories of people who became refugees, of the residents in Korea who stood beside them, and of the healing, learning, and moments of brightness that grew between them.

Organiser: MAP (Migration to Asia Peace)

MAP is a nonprofit organisation that raises awareness and encourages action around involuntary migration in Asia, including issues affecting refugees, internally displaced people, and survivors of human trafficking. MAP works toward ensuring that involuntary migration does not become a source of further conflict in host communities, and that it can instead move in a direction that is peaceful and beneficial for everyone involved.

World Refugee Day

This event was organised in honour of World Refugee Day (20 June). The day was established by a United Nations General Assembly resolution in 2000 and has been observed every year on 20 June since 2001. It is a day to honour the courage of people who have fled conflict and persecution to leave their home countries, and to remind the international community that protecting refugees is a shared global responsibility.
