Foreign children and youth who live in Gyeonggi Province and use public transportation can also get their fares back. The process for foreign students is different from the regular online application, so please check the documents and steps below and apply early in the quarter.
Who can apply?
Children and youth aged 6 to 18 who live in Gyeonggi Province and use a transportation card on public transit in the Seoul metropolitan area can apply.
- Registered foreign children and youth living in Gyeonggi Province on the date of application
- Children and youth of foreign nationality (overseas Koreans) who have completed a Domestic Residence Report
It must be possible to confirm that the child or young person lives in Gyeonggi Province.
Which transportation is covered?
Buses, subways, light rail, GTX and the Shinbundang Line in the Seoul metropolitan area are covered. Transportation that needs a separate ticket, such as intercity or express buses, KTX and SRT, is not covered.
How much do you get back, and how?
- Amount: the actual fares paid with the student’s transportation card, up to KRW 60,000 per quarter and KRW 240,000 per year.
- How it is paid: as Gyeonggi local currency on the Gyeonggi local currency card (or app) registered by the parent or the student.
- When it is paid: Q3 at the end of October, Q4 at the end of January the following year. The exact schedule and limits are announced on the program website.
When must foreign residents apply?
Applications from foreign residents close 3 to 4 days before the regular deadline each quarter. Please call 1577-8459 to confirm the exact date and time.
- Deadline for Q4 2026: 28 December, 5 pm
Missing documents can slow things down, so please prepare early in the quarter. Support for a past quarter cannot be claimed later.
How do foreign residents apply?
Foreign children and youth cannot apply online. You fill in the forms by hand and send them to the Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation by email or fax.
1. Prepare the documents
- Membership application form for the Children and Youth Transit Fare Support Program (attached to the original notice)
- Consent form for the provision and use of personal information (attached to the original notice)
- Certificate of Alien Registration in the child’s name
- Certificate of Domestic Residence Report in the child’s name, 1 copy (if applicable, issued within the last month)
- A photo of the transportation card the student actually uses (in the student’s own name)
- A photo of the local currency card that will receive the support (if a representative verifies, the representative’s local currency card can be registered)
Register the card that was actually used in that quarter. If a card was lost or reissued, up to 2 cards can be registered.
2. Print and fill in the forms
Download and print the attached membership application form and consent form. Fill in every blank and sign by hand wherever the applicant and the representative must sign.
- In the “applicant (대상자)” section, write the details of the child who will receive the support.
- If a parent applies on the child’s behalf, write the parent’s details in the “representative (대리인)” section.
- On the consent form, the child is also the “applicant”.
- Existing members should also check their Gyeonggi residence verification, registered transportation card and local currency details for that quarter.
3. Scan or photograph
Scan all signed forms and documents, or take photos where the writing and signatures are clearly visible, and save them as files.
4. Send by email or fax
