The 2024 Friends of Hope Refugee Youth Scholarship Program, introduced by Migration to Asia Peace (MAP), provides financial support so that middle and high school students from migrant and refugee families can continue their studies in Korea. Please note that applications must go through a recommending organization — students cannot apply on their own.
Who Can Apply
- Youth with a migration background currently enrolled from the first year of middle school through the final year of high school
- “Youth with a migration background” includes children of migrant workers, children from refugee families, children from multicultural families, and mid-entry youth
- Students who are scheduled to enroll in school in 2024 are also eligible
How and When to Apply
- Application period: Tuesday, February 13, 2024 — Thursday, March 14, 2024
- The deadline to submit the application form is March 6, 2024
- How to apply: Applications are only accepted through a recommending organization; individuals cannot apply directly
- Each organization may recommend up to two students, and only one student per household may apply

How the Scholarship Is Paid and Managed
- The scholarship is paid to the recommending organization’s bank account, not directly to the student
- The organization then manages the funds using an ongoing case management approach
- After the scholarship program concludes, the recipient organization must submit a results report and supporting documents within the set deadline
What the Scholarship Can Be Used For
The scholarship may only be used for school-related educational purposes; it cannot be used for general living expenses. The main eligible uses are:
- School education costs (tuition, textbooks, etc.)
- Costs related to school life
- Education-related costs outside of school
- Other items: up to 300,000 KRW
Online learning tools may be purchased, but they must be bought from a place that can issue an official receipt, and proof of purchase must be submitted afterward.
